Elephant Rescue Efforts Gaining Momentum

“Elephants across Africa and Asia are being poached for their ivory at increasing levels,” says WWF.  Fortunately, there are many local human populations, national and international organizations and governments in the world often working together to save elephants and their habitats, groups in Asia and Africa, and even with elephant sanctuaries in the United States.


New Security for Coral Reefs: Red and Pink Corals Get United Nations Trade Protection

 Trade in red and pink corals prized as jewelry for 5,000 years will be restricted to try to help the species recover after drastic over-exploitation, a United Nations wildlife conference, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES),  agreed on June 15, 2007.

The proposals offer detailed arguments on how to improve the conservation
and sustainable use of the African elephant, the minke whale, the great
white shark, various tropical birds, trees and orchids, numerous turtle
species, the southern white rhinoceros, two species of crocodile, the bald
eagle, several medicinal plants and many other species.
