WASH Media Award Competition Call for Entries Of Reports on Water Supply, Sanitation or Hygiene

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) are co-sponsoring the second edition of the WASH Media Award competition, to be held between July 2007 and April 2008.


European Union donates funds to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene for Zimbabwe’s rural poor.

The European Union has donated 3.7m Euro (approx US$4.7million) to a UNICEF project that will reach 500,000 Zimbabweans with improved sanitation, hygiene and water facilities. The project focuses on those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.


Treaty to prevent water-borne diseases in Europe enters into force

A treaty to prevent such water-related diseases as cholera, dysentery and typhoid through the provision of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation in cross-boundary European river basins entered into force today, following its ratification by the required16 countries, according to the United Nations health agency.


The improved septic tanks project

In Bagadadji, one of the oldest areas of Bamako, Mali, a project entitled "Improved Cesspools" was designed and is carried out on the basic premise that the local population should be involved in managing their own environment.
