European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) now provides the online search tool, "Navigator," in 20 official EU languages. The Navigator is an interactive tool that helps manufacturers, importers, downstream users, distributors of chemical substances and producers or importers of articles to work out their obligations under REACH.
Under REACH, each actor in the supply chain has specific obligations.
The Navigator provides a list of obligations for a given substance, based on the answers the user gives to a series of questions: whether they manufacture or import the substance, at what tonnage, for what use, whether the substance is classified as dangerous, etc.
The Navigator gives explanations for users below each question. REACH obligations relate to the individual substances that are contained in preparations or articles and so the impact goes beyond chemical manufacturers and importers.
The Navigator helps companies work out their obligations but also to find the appropriate guidance on how to fulfill them.
About REACH
What is REACH?
REACH is the Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force on 1st June 2007 to streamline and improve the former legislative framework on chemicals of the European Union (EU). REACH places greater responsibility on industry to manage the risks that chemicals may pose to the health and the environment.
In principle REACH applies to all chemicals: not only chemicals used in industrial processes but also in our day-to-day life, for example in cleaning products, paints as well as in articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances.
